Here’s a watch we may never see again: An ORIS quartz with a picture of Saddam Hussein on the dial. The auction text does not say, but given the stainless steel back and quartz movement, I’m guessing this is a gold plated watch. Many of the Swiss and high-end watch brands make special watches for the Middle East (that’s where the money is) but usually they are quite high end movements and in solid precious metals like gold or platinum, so the brands can really jack-up the price. So my guess is this watch was either for sale to the rabble or it was something for the regime to give away to patrons etc… Anyway, how one survived is amazing, although I doubt the seller can get the $500 for it he/she is looking for. Saddam wore a better watch than this quartz ORIS. He apparently wore a jewel-encrusted Rolex which was auctioned off in England after his death.
