About

I love watches. I love the way they look, the way they work, the stories behind them. I've had people call me a watch-a-holic. I'm constantly looking for "new" vintage watches to buy and thought I would use these pages to show the best finds of the day. But, you better act fast before I buy it out from under you!

Looking for something specific?

Here’s a vintage watch that brings out some nostalgic longings in me.  First of all, I like the Phillips 66 logo, which was bit before my time.  I only knew Phillips 76.  Then it is always nice when the inscription is consistent and informative.  As can be seen, this watch was given for 25 years service.  The N5 code indicates 1975, which is consistent with the inscription on the watch.  Typically sized for the period at 36mm, condition looks okay for a watch of this age.  the crystal is probably acrylic.  What the sales text does not mention is the movement, probably a later tuning fork caliber, the 2191. This later Accutron movement is not as “sexy” as the earlier 214 movements with the double  drive coils.  The 2191 have only a single drive coil and hence one less “tuning fork” and a less symmetrical look. Anyway, the cool things about these older accutrons are the hum of the movement, and the very smooth sweep seconds hand.  Much more pleasant to look at than the ticking quartz movement seconds hand.  Anyway, this watch is available at Watchcat for a very reasonable $159, a bargain to be sure!
