Sometimes as a collector it is hard for me to delineate why I like a particular watch. The Oris watches above are a good example. I really, really like the the idea of a series of watches based on great world musicians. Not only great but COOL world musicians. So far, the Oscar Peterson and the Bob Dylan have been released. I have a feeling that had these watches just been released in these designs — without the signatures and the association — I wouldn’t have given these watches a second look. But somehow, for me, the signature on the dial, the engraved casebacks, and the special “sets” as well as the cache for each artist, make me want these watches. Like seriously buy them both right now. Movement-wise, these watches are nothing special, just the Sellita SW200, basically an run-of-the-mill ETA2824 clone. A workhouse, common movement. I like the Oris red rotors though. These are probably watches I would never wear but keep as a collectible. The problem is, I hate to own watches I don’t wear. Seems like a waste. However, if I ever find these watches for an irresistable price, I’d be hard-pressed not to pick them up. God, if they ever came out with a well-designed Bob Marley watch, I’d fold like house of cards.
