Wow, here’s a real oldie that you don’t see very often, an Illinois wristwatch in good condition. Illinois watches are very collectible and have a hard core collecting cohort out there. One of the storied American watch manufactures from pocket watches till the pre-war period. This one caught my attention because of the cool running seconds dial above 6:00 which is not common, as well as the cool shape of the case. I think the square shaped lugs on top of the round case, gives a pleasing tiered effect, as if the round shape had been pressed onto a square case. The sales text claims the watch was manufactured in 1931, so this watch could actually be a Hamilton manufacture. Anyway, I’ve always liked cathedral hands and the large lumed numbers of these early watches, makes for a clear legibility. The movement is also better than I expected with a swan’s neck fine regulator. The only things that worries me a bit is the cleanness of the dial. A little too clean in my opinion, which make me think this a redial. Occasionally an early model Illinois like this will grab my attention, but usually they are at dealers and overpriced, as in this case at Darlor Watch for $700.
