About

I love watches. I love the way they look, the way they work, the stories behind them. I've had people call me a watch-a-holic. I'm constantly looking for "new" vintage watches to buy and thought I would use these pages to show the best finds of the day. But, you better act fast before I buy it out from under you!

Looking for something specific?

Egona is a Swiss brand that I was unable to find very much information about. They seemed to make higher-tier Swiss mechanicals back in the day, in this case the 1940’s or so.  I think the 18K Rose gold makes for a striking watch, unfortunately, the painted “rose gold” numerals and hands coupled with the black dial make the watch unreadable.  Perhaps from straight-on the dial is passable, but I can imagine from angles, it must be very hard to read.  ANd forget about the chrono sub-dials, they must be nearly invisible. The movement is attractive, though, a standard 17-jewel manual wind from Alpha Watch Corporation. I must admit that I like solid gold casebacks, even though they do tend to wear out quickly.  Nice detailed touches like the matching crowns and pushers which are the same as the case and the excellent, slightly larger case size at 37mm.  I rather doubt Egona made chronographs exclusively, although that is what it seems like since the only Egonas I ever see are chronographs.  A nice example of an Egona at $1,195 from WatchestoBuy, but a bit overpriced.
