About

I love watches. I love the way they look, the way they work, the stories behind them. I've had people call me a watch-a-holic. I'm constantly looking for "new" vintage watches to buy and thought I would use these pages to show the best finds of the day. But, you better act fast before I buy it out from under you!

Looking for something specific?

Another unusual “watch” collectible: a case of unused BENRUS Sky Chief matchbooks.  Basically, a cooperative advertising piece from Benrus and ACT-Air Cargo Transport.  It show Benrus’ most collectible line these days, the Sky Chief.  Highly collectible and extremely overpriced, it seems to be the only piece that most vintage watch collectors desire from Benrus. I like the line drawing of the watch, you rarely see that these days in the era of ubiquitous photography. Also this is looks to be a 4-color job, sort of fancy for a matchbook.  The story of the Sky Chief inside the matchbook is really odd.  It reads very poorly for some reason, although I can’t put my finger on why that is:

The Benrus “Sky Chief” chronograph was specially made for airline pilots. This extremely accurate watch times many famous airlines the world over. For other Benrus watches, made with the same skill and carrying the same guarantee of accuracy, ask your jeweler to show you his beautiful selection.

A box of 50 is available on ebay for a starting bid of $39.99.
